We have been losing a few of our (so we thought. I apologize if that seems harsh but it's really upset me) dedicated members of the guild because we're not RPing. I guess I can see their point since we're on a RP server, but I wanted everyone's opinion on should we do more rp? Maybe schedule a once a week RP night if people want to RP? I'd hate to lose more people because of this.

Not a RP person myself. So doesn't bother me any way it goes.

I voted "fine the way we are", because I've never once heard any expectations that we're an RP guild. That being said, I wouldn't necessarily be averse to something optional and low-key, but to be honest the fun atmosphere we have in guild chat and the camaraderie are what I'm looking for and I'm quite happy with the way things are.
It also seems pretty crappy for someone to leave the guild because of a "lack of RP" rather than making some attempt to foster RP within the guild. I see no thread on these forums concerning any RP event, and I don't recall even so much as a "hey we're RP'ing if folks would like to join". So for someone to leave the guild over this seems to me, quite frankly, to be a character flaw on their part, not any lack on the part of the guild.

Please know that I never felt the Order was lacking in anything. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with those of you I played with and learned from and I hope helped.
My choice to move to another server is because that server as a whole is entrenched in RP and its something I felt I wanted to add to my playtime and I hope is not a character flaw.
I hold my time with you all very dear and wish you all the best.
I am sorry if this decision has caused consternation among guildmembers as it was never my intention.

I personally prefer to RP on the site Thor that's why I put my threads up here. (btw, anyone is welcome to join 'Just another day in paradise') Elaena I understand, I do. But after you, Kevti and Cassie, all people I was close to, leave....I'm going to make sure I don't lose any more.

Im not a big Roleplayer myself. Ive never really done it, I picked the server because these types of server tend to have a bit of a more mature population. I am not opposed to it, although i dont know I would participate. I think it would be fun to do some guild events, maybe other than just raids... but I dunno what.

I don't have much experience in RP, so maybe doing it one day a week would help me improve? I have an idea for the personality of my character but it's hard to act it out when I never really talk out loud anyways. I don't even know what type of speech to use, old english or modern etc. I've played my fair share of D&D so that's the only experience I have in RP. It's easier when your sitting across from your fellow players and you can use gestures and point out things, I usually had drawings to accompany my character too, which I've been kind of trying with Rift. I don't know anybodies personalities unless I see them talking or acting.
*Also I've been mostly just playing at night I have commissions and loads of homework to deal with right now, I haven't quit haha, I'm only lvl 43 anyways*

RP doesn't have to be formal. I'm all for an event once a week but It's not necessary for me to continue to stay with this guild. I've seen RP weddings where people just show up and listen to someone read vows, people can be ushers or flower girls etc. It was fun. I've seen many things that sound like fun things to try if anyone is interested. Some examples: -Guard Patrol around Silverwood where we walk around the zone borders and look for evil doers. -Level 1 Newbie runs through high level zones. -Story night (or ghost story night on Halloween o.o) -Guild hide and seek. -In game triva (Erl touched on this with his movie quotes, to make it more RP you could look up some lore questions) -Out of game art contests. (i.e. Create art of your in game experiences and have members vote on their favorites. -etc. All of this can be fun examples of 'RP' *A side note. It adds a lot of stability and sets a great example when the guild leader makes the first step in setting something up once in a while

Sorry if my post came off as a bit harsh. You should play the game the way you want, as you're the one paying for it and its your time spent. I don't think that wanting to RP is a character flaw by any stretch. I'm a pen and paper guy myself, in that regard. I was just a bit miffed by the way some people left, without having really trying to get anything going in our guild, if there was a perceived lack. Just my opinion, nothing more.

Understood Thor. And Mareck those are great ideas! I'm all about the hide and seek I think that would be a blast. I myself want to get into RPing just every once in a while and now that I've got my mount I was obsessed with it'll be easier for me to make time With halloween coming up it'd be fun to meet up for a 'halloween' party with one or more costume pieces and tell ghost stories if anyone wanted to.

I put that we are fine the way we are. I feel exactly the same way as Fritz. He said it perfectly. All that aside, I can't believe Kevti left! I thought he was a permanent fixture. I'm so sad now!

Ok... *deep breath* I have an extensive RP background, and I will say this one thing. RP = Drama. Well it did in Linage 2 and in EQ. People got RL OOC and RP all confused, and it turned into a BIG, and I do mean Big mess for me the Leader of the RP community in Lineage 2 and a prominent RP guild. So, having said that, I do however enjoy RP, but I like lite RP. You will notice that my characters are most always in lite RP mode. Then again maybe you don't notice. Maybe you think I'm just wacky? No, I don't smoke wacky tabaccy.... You don't need thee's and thou's in fact DON't use thee's and thou's. I generally like impromptu RP. You meet someone in Sanctum, and start a conversation in say. I don't like RP conversations in tell's as it can lead to things that I frankly don't want any part of. ie. cyber sex.... yes I said it. RP is NOT cyber sex. Although, there are many who think that's what it is.
Mareck gave some really great suggestions. The level one nekky race is the BEST!!! OMG it's more fun then you can ever believe. AND, when you do it you use shout so that the entire area can hear what's going on as you pass through the zones.
A friend of mine created characters that were twins in old EQ. We would play hide and seek in Quenos. You could take that up a notch and create an alt guild with defiants, and play hide and seek you die if you are it with low levels. These characters would be re-rolled so that they remain under lvl 10. If the characters are allowed to level then you may loose site of the purpose and fill up your limited character slots.
Anyway, to RP or not to RP... that was the question that I should get back to. You almost have to make a choice. If you want to be a raiding guild then RP may get in the way of the people who want to get raid ready. Then again if you can convince the raiding population of the guild that RP is a way to ease a bit of tension, by having a fun event it may work. In my experience the two really don't mix very well.
I'm not sure if a "scheduled" once a week event is the way to go, it can get to be a burdon on the event co-ordinators. Trust me, in Lineage 2 I ran a weekly event called the "Wishing Well" it got old. But, a very dedicated person took it over, and it is still meeting weekly. It has moved to other games as well, ie. EQ2.
There were things that I didn't like that happened to my guild personally. We had a rival guild who RP'd kidnapping my guild members. When all of a sudden your guild member leaves for another guild and say's it's an RP kidnapping and now we have to PvP to get her back. It would have been ok had the leaders discussed it, but it was impromptu, and felt like it was just a way to move to another guild. Which is was. Can we say drama? Nope... I don't like drama.
So once again to RP or not to RP? I'm happy the way we are, but would not mind the occaisional non manditory fun event like nekkey races, and hide and seek pvp/duels. Or even running around killing defiants in the wild! YAH!

I voted once a week, since I've never really done RP. I actually joined the RP following my buddy because we hate open world PvP. Leveling and worrying about getting ganked, and corpse camped, and all the drama that went with that I'm actually glad I left behind in WoW. I ganked lowbies in WoW one sight just because of the fact that it likely wasn't a new player like I was at that point, and it happened to me. WoW had already hit it's level cap and was declining. Any "lowbies" were alts at that point. All that extra crap being said, I don't mind either way. But I would like our guild to NOT be get that far all the time. I don't mind having fun, but having to worry about being OOC, etc. etc. gets tiring to me. But then again, I don't talk to random people in Sanctum...unless they are asking about my flaming horse... :-) www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTu2yW3BiqQ - ascend a friend www.youtube.com/watch?v=owGykVbfgUE - what it is parodying
